Vakseen: The Cure

Posted on June 18, 2010 in: Features, Lifestyle

“The track record speaks for itself.” Davis said boastfully. “There is so much more that is wanted. The goals, the accomplishments, the willingness to continue to learn and succeed, getting into a business that is hard to get into; this wouldn’t change if the face that I started with wasn’t an intern. The work ethic is serious and the focus is being a boss. Hard work and dedication separates the average person from the star and I’m not done.”

Vakseen – The Cure

With no musical life in the city of Jacksonville, Fl, the look to an outlet for a musically inclined individual would mean to make a jump. With Miami, Fl not too far away, the move was made with an opportunity arising with Slip-N-Slide Records. Georgia native, Otha Davis III; lover of music for what it was with influences like Marvin Gaye and the Parliament Funkadelic, allows himself to grow as a musical influence for others. The creation of Vakseen became imminent.

With inspiration coming from such classic artists, the liking of the typical commercial sound wasn’t welcomed by Davis. Coming from the musical group, the Shawshanks with some locals of Jacksonville, the young Davis grew into Vakseen, the Cure. “Vakseen is the cure. Vakseen is the cure for this music. I always felt like music isn’t as good as it was back in the days. I felt I always had an old soul,” Davis said.

Beginning as an intern at Slip-N-Slide Records in 2005, Davis created a path within, after the door was opened and within a month, was apart of ‘Slip-N-Slide On Da Grind’ following the sighting of his value immediately. Following a few months with the label, CEO, Ted Lucas, made Davis an A&R.

“Next thing you know, I’m Plies’ Product Manager and signing artists and producers. I’m also Swazy Baby and Camar’s Product Manager,” Davis said. “Swazy’s the main priority for the label, so we’re really grinding and building the awareness of his new single “I Sang”. In short, I’m an entrepreneur, creative mind, and hustler in every sense of the word! I didn’t even mention that I produce and write songs (laughter).”

Vakseen LLC is the company. Dealing with songwriters and producers as they specialize in A&R consultation, marketing, and artist management, Vakseen LLC stands with validity in an ever-changing industry. As a part of Slip-N-Slide Records, Davis plays a role as the A&R Consultant and Product Manager within a label that cites some of the biggest names in today’s industry, like Rick Ross, Plies, Trina, and Jagged Edge.

Given his position, Davis is the babysitter. “We’re the backbone of record labels….music PERIOD, for that matter. On the flip, Product Managers handle all of the marketing for an artist,” Davis said.

“Otha and Vakseen are one in the same,” Davis said. ” A man of the music; Davis lives and breathes music. Getting up to go work day by day is never something to dread for him as he sees himself as one of the few people that can say, ‘I love what I do’. “Many people wake up and dread getting up and going to work in the morning and I’ve never said that. Vakseen and Otha are the same with the same focus all day,” Davis said.
