Black History Blog: Journey Forth Whitney

Happy Sunday everybody! However, a sad wrap to a seemingly grand weekend. It has turned into a weekend for remembrance. As the years have rolled over in the 2000′s, we’ve seen many of our great legends, conservative and assertive, pass on to the realm of peace.

Legends are those who are real people, capable of altering lives with their gifts. Legends are not in high number in this world we walk. They are real people who deal with real everyday struggles, whether the tax bracket. These individuals make mistakes and they also shine through their perfections. The best part of these legends, are that they live lives realistically through the best of their means. We take the time out to honor legends in every way imaginable; however, don’t take real time to appreciate ALL things specials about them, until we cannot.

A career in the tabloids showed ups and down for one of our legends; talented artist with the pipes to blow Hawaii further into the Pacific with a smile white enough to teach it as an art; tons of personality, a love that blossomed from controversial spotlight to a family founded on fortune; on Saturday, February 11th, we lost Whitney Elizabeth Houston.

The details of her passing will not be discussed here; however, the greatness within a woman was present every time she exhaled, hence the topic of discussion. Even in her poorest time, the thoughts were never sorrowful, but hopeful. Though negativity reigned supreme at times, the possibilities of her rebirth were always looming. She made the jump back into prominence in 2010, with the release of her single, ‘Million Dollar Bill’.

To not focus on the negative aspects of the person that is, Whitney Houston, has been hard due to the public and media spotlight. However, one cannot take away from the fact that she lived her life to the fullest, from ALL aspects. Respect IS Profound, Ms. Houston. Rest In Peace, Whitney Elizabeth Houston (August 9, 1963 – February 11, 2012).
