YC the Cynic – You’re Welcome

“YC be OD smooth” is how ‘Say Superman’ starts off. Upholding the line is the mellow flow and clever word play. Over beats that resemble 90’s Hip-Hop, as it brings out the “boom bap”, the young emcee out of the Bronx, NY takes jabs at major labels, makes parody of the Chris Brown/Rihanna situation, and makes sure that his skill is noticed.

“I was taking em to school using music as a compass,” YC lays out on the track, ‘Kick Back’. Listen and notice theconfidence. Easily confused with cocky, however the lesson is given and taken as the lyrics show a sense of humbleness.

The choice of sound changes up on the track, ‘In the City’ as the traditional “boom bap” is strayed away from and the vocals keep it simple and safe to topic.

YC the Cynic has fun with ‘Chris Brown’s Latest Hit’. Over a classic track, with a hook so appropriate; “I’ma have to beat that ass (Chris Brown on em’ Chris Brown)”, as it flows so mellow.

Very few features, however, allow for a concentration of the sound that YC has to offer. “A Scorpios mind is complex. I’m convinced that I gotta speak in context,” in the track ‘Lost’ shows the word play over a track giving praise to the grind as Rodstarz and Hipnotic are featured with the young emcee.

The tone eases and becomes somber with the closing track ‘Be Aware (Kings of New York)’, “one headphone’s out, the others in my ear.”
